Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) boss Rigathi Gachagua, who is on a tour of America, is scheduled to officially commence the public phase of his political engagements on Monday after resting for 10 days.
Mr Gachagua, who jetted out of the country on August 26, said he first wanted to spend 10 quality days with his wife, Reverend Dorcas, before commencing his political activities in America.
Mr Gachagua has been letting his fans into his restful moments by ‘leaking’ some photos of him and Dorcas riding speedboats as well as taking morning walks.
“Family is everything and I wanted to first have quality life with my wife, who had selflessly released me to political vagaries back home in Kenya. It is after that rest that I will move out to face my political supporters for valuable engagements about the state of affairs back in Kenya, the need to build a strong DCP, the need for one opposition presidential candidate, our goals and our budget,” he said.
Mr Gachagua said he will engage both in public and in private as he seeks to promote DCP as a serious partner in effecting a democratic regime change in Kenya, as well as the need to have the highest quality of aspirants for both levels of governance—national government and devolution.
“We will meet with both Mt Kenya and national supporters. We have rolled out this policy of gather all and scatter none in DCP. We are selling both the DCP and the national agenda of why it is urgent that we save our country against President William Ruto’s rule. We have our goals and strategies to achieve them. We have the financing gap. That is the plan we are here to sell to our supporters,” he said.
In a nutshell, Mr Gachagua said his next 45 days in America will be about mobilising support and building financial partnerships within the Kenyan diaspora ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to DCP’s shared itinerary—which it said will be subject to amendments on a need basis—until September 10, Mr Gachagua will be in Spokane, Washington, where he will meet and address public meetings as well as have private sessions with what the party referred to as “crucial contacts.”
The Mumbi Family coordinator—an association that brings together some of the Agikuyu community members in the US—Mr James Gatheru, told Nation that Mr Gachagua has over 80 engagements slated for him.
“some of the engagements touch on diplomatic contacts to brief critical corners of the world on evils of President Ruto’s regime and especially prosecute the fear of a government being seen to openly plan civil strife to hang on in power,” he said.

He added that there are serious contacts that will meet with Mr Gachagua even when the critical agenda will be to empower him to fund his DCP plan.
“He will mobilise us and we will support him both morally and financially. We have serious people who can take up the bills here. We will seek to know from him how committed the United Opposition is and the formula he sees best to make things work again back home. We are satisfied that he has been very active mobilising opposition passions in Kenya and to us he is a serious actor in pursuit of the goals those of us in opposition seek to achieve in the 2027 General Election,” he said.
Mr Gatheru added that DCP supporters in the USA have been briefed that the party will need more than Sh5 billion to remain competitive for the 2027 duel.
“We have also been made aware that DCP seeks to capture superior numbers both in the National Assembly and the Senate as well as sweep super majority seats in the Counties. This will need money. Beyond the words, we know we will have to dig into our safes and finance the plan,” he said.
He added that most of Mr Gachagua’s engagements will feature town halls focused on establishing local party chapters and discussing governance frameworks with Kenyan professionals living in America, while retreating to private engagements to plan the financing agenda.
Up to September 16, Mr Gachagua will be in Portland, Oregon, where the itinerary says he will hold consultations with business owners and community leaders regarding diaspora-led development initiatives.
The itinerary shifts to the American Midwest in Kansas up to September 24, where the engagements will centre on agricultural trade conversations and meetings with agrarian-interest groups within the diaspora.
Mr Gachagua will then shift to Dallas, Texas, up to October 1, where he will target a major economic hub with one of the densest populations of Kenyan nationals in the US. This eight-day block is highly focused on strategic consultation and party resource development.
He will then shift to Boston, Massachusetts, until October 10, where, in his concluding engagements, he will focus on academic forums, public policy roundtables and a final address to the diaspora base before the planned return to Kenya in mid-October.
“We will prove to him and DCP family that we are Kenyans by all aspects and we are willing to support all those activities aimed at making our country great where enough opportunities can be created to improve quality of lives and make Kenya an economic powerhouse devoid of absurdities like those of borrowing to foot the wage bill,” Mr Gatheru said.
The DCP Secretary-General designate, Mr John Methu, told Nation that Mr Gachagua’s activities are not entirely concentrated in America.
“His guiding hand is also back here at home where he is setting aside time to check on us. We are briefing him every morning on emerging issues and he is helping us fine-tune our local engagements. His sharp mobilisation mind as well as crafty messaging are ingredients we are sourcing from him to keep ourselves competitive here in Kenya as he makes us relevant on the global map,” he said.

Mr Methu said all agendas of DCP in the political market, both in Kenya and abroad, are collapsed into the slogan One Mountain, One Party and One Leader for national liberation.
“In this, we simply mean that we are for the united Mountain first, a strong political party that is DCP and our presidential aspirant is Mr Gachagua to take us to the national table for negotiations that will give us a joint presidential candidate to take President Ruto home,” he said.
Mr Methu said Mr Gachagua’s activities in America will be mobilisation for both moral and financial support, as well as updating the world on serious human rights and economic injuries Kenyans continue to suffer at the hands of President Ruto’s government.
Asked whether Mr Gachagua will meet President Ruto in the US, Mr Methu said he is not interested in getting dragged into “idle debates designed by propagandists.”
“It is a known fact both here and in the Heavens that Mr Gachagua holds President Ruto as the chief problem ailing Kenya and all his political passions remain on putting the incumbent on the highway to a resounding defeat,” Mr Methu said.
The DCP Deputy Party Leader, Mr Cleophas Malala, said Mr Gachagua’s presence remains towering back in the country.
“I am representing him in the joint meetings of the United Opposition Principals and his commitment remains to unity of purpose, liberation and eventual good governance. He might be in the US but his presence in the local political discourse remains very active,” he said.
