Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a State-sponsored killer squad has been sent after him.
In a bombshell television address, he claimed that a squad of 101 officers drawn from the National Police Service, National Intelligence Service, General Service Unit and regular police was deployed to his homes.
"While attending a church service in Gatanga yesterday, I received intelligence reports that...a killer squad of 101, from NPS seconded from NIS, and accompanied by DCI and regular police, were deployed," he said.
He added: "They were mobilised...The squad was armed to the teeth and hooded. This is despite the existing guidelines that officers should be in uniform."
Gachagua also claimed that the squad was armed with biological weapons to poison him with chemicals that would kill him "within three months".
"I've not been summoned any anybody. They wanted to plant weapons and chemicals...to pralyse us the way they did to Matiba."
Earlier today, when Nation reached out to the National Police Service for comment on claims of a secret police unit sent to Gachagua's homes, Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the agency is unaware of such a squad.
"We have no information on any such police operation," he said.
Separately, government spokesman Isaac Mwaura termed the accusations as "laughable".
“Those remarks are outrageous to say the least, and laughable at most. The government of the Republic of Kenya shall continue to maintain law and order to ensure peaceful coexistence amongst all Kenyans. Leaders are advised to desist from inciting the public in order to gain political mileage. We are living in the era of misinformation and disinformation. Kenyans are advised to take such utterances very cautiously,” he said.
