President William Ruto has announced that Kanu, led by Gideon Moi, will join his broad-based government.
Speaking during a visit to Moi's Kabarak home on Friday, he also confirmed that the Kanu chairman withdrew from the Baringo senatorial race yesterday because he asked him to do so.
"I have looked for Gideon to help me to help me pull this country out of the third world, so that we can have a progressive country," he told those gathered at the home.

President Ruto cracked up the crowd when he joked that he knew the Kabarak home so well, having been invited there several times by former president Daniel Moi. He added that this familiarity qualifies him to be considered part of the Moi family.

He defended Mr Moi’s political decision to step down, telling the gathering that he will broaden the broad-based government to include Kanu.
"After the Kabarnet anger, I told him the best place to make our announcement to the public was here at Kabarak."

On his part, Mr Moi lightened up the crowd with a joke, saying President Ruto had really “washed him clean.” However, he quickly turned serious, stressing that unity in Baringo was crucial to achieving meaningful development in the region.
