Sh2m demand for a vote?
In the corridors of Parliament, an audacious legislator is said to have told the powers that be that if they wanted her vote, they should be ready to part with Sh2 million. The talkative legislator insisted that the money must be paid upfront and not after the voting process. Our eagle-eyed sources within the precincts noted that the lawmaker insisted she had previously been duped and would not accept any promise of payment “after the fact”. It is not clear whether the money was ever delivered.
Legislator’s Sh10 million dilemma
An elected lawmaker is in a real dilemma after he failed to keep his part of the bargain despite taking Sh10 million from a leader who had an appointment with the lawmaker. The man apparently pocketed the money with the promise that he would 'treat' the ground (supporters) by dishing it out to his colleagues in order to get a favourable outcome in the vote. However, the man became selfish and never shared the loot with the intended recipients, others got wind of the matter and vowed to teach him a lesson by voting against his wishes. It is not clear if the man will return the money to the boss.
Shocked for missing the DP slot
One of the leaders eyeing the position of Deputy President was in for a rude shock when the announcement was made. Talk of Town understands that the politician, who is rumoured to have spent heavily to improve his chances, called an early morning meeting with influential people to get answers as to what had happened. The disgruntled politician was told during the meeting that there was little the influential person could have done.
Government official in trouble
A government communications official who is also linked to a private media company is in trouble after allegations of sexual harassment and failure to pay unfairly dismissed staff. The man is now facing a legal threat that could blow up in his face and embarrass his current high-profile boss after lawyers took up the matter and are now preparing court documents if he fails to pay his former staff. The man is said to be presenting a different face on social media and in public, as those who worked with him have a different story to tell.
Minister always ‘airborne’
A cabinet secretary in a powerful ministry is a man on the spot, as every time journalists ask him for a comment, he always whispers, "I'm about to be airborne, talk later". Journalists have since discovered that he is not always in the air, but it is a way of avoiding them. The man who has been incorporated into the broad-based government was a favourite of journalists during his time in parliament, where he often made lengthy statements. Lawmakers are also plotting against the new CS, who they complain no longer picks their calls.
