The United Opposition yesterday said that the country is being run like a mafia state, with the government captured by wheeler-dealers.

Democracy for Citizen’s Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Patriotic Front’s Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K’s Eugene Wamalwa and Democratic Party’s Justin Muturi said the 2027 General Election will be more of an economic liberation than a political one.

Attending an interdenominational worship service in Murang’a’s Ithanga/Kakuzi sub-county, the leaders urged Kenyans to take the 2027 General Election seriously and make it a priority to register the highest possible turnout to free the country from ruin.

Mr Gachagua said he was privy to information that Chinese contractors have been deported in the last few days as wheeler-dealers attempt to capture a tender to build a railway city being funded by the British government. He claimed the decision was arrived at after the Chinese appealed the decision to deny them the tender, in which they had quoted Sh22 billion, with a competitor who quoted Sh29 billion winning it.

“I urge the Chinese government to join us in protesting the hostile action, and I also appeal to the British government to investigate whether the Sh7 billion difference in the two quotations will be kicked back to the wheeler-dealers,” he said.

Mr Gachagua added that high-yielding sectors are being centralised to one control centre. He named steel, cement and tiles’ sub-sectors as among those effectively captured.

“The capture is in health, mining, financial, hospitality, military hardware, insurance, education and public transport sectors. This explains why police are being used as a capture army where those not deemed to be mafia-friendly... are being evicted using brute force from their properties and members of targeted health facilities being persecuted in a bid to coerce them to exit operations,” he said.

The former Deputy President said the government is determined to win the 2027 General Election to enable the reigning cartels to completely take over the country.

Mr Musyoka termed the prevailing environment in the country a “mad moment”. He said it was a shame that the country is featuring in awkward debates about the most corrupt to the richest leaders.

“This tells you that the globe is aware that we are being governed in a way that cannot measure up to basic standards. For instance, this regime is corruptly sneaking back the trashed Adani deals that sought to take over our aviation and power grid sectors. We will resist in courts,” he said.

Mr Musyoka warned that there is a systematic move to kill all independent voices that can resist despotic tendencies.

“We are seriously investigating recent happenings aimed at killing democracy champions ... the takeover of independent entities critical of State capture,” he said, adding that democratic freedoms are not negotiable.

Further, he said, the State capture is spreading even to the Judiciary through appointments, shuffling and recommendations to exit some judges, as well as in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

“Let it be clearly known that we will not accept these cheeky machinations. We have the option of progressing resistance even after the vote if it will not satisfy the threshold of fair and just democracy,” he said.

Mr Wamalwa said the country is in a situation where it needs the grace of God to stand.

“We all know God’s holy commandments, which one has this regime not broken? From abducting and murdering dissenters to stealing, from coveting to worshipping gold scams, from bearing false witness to you name it. Our only source of reprieve is voting out this government as a patriotic duty,” he said.

Mr Muturi claimed that the State capture machinations have not spared Murang’a County. He claimed that land previously surrendered to the government by the Del Monte Company, intended for the settlement of locals, has allegedly been allocated to private investors.

He said during his tenure as Speaker of the National Assembly, Parliament had adopted a resolution directing that the land be allocated to nearly 4,000 local beneficiaries, which is yet to happen. He pleaded with Murang’a people to endorse the United Opposition in 2027.

“We will ensure that justice is served to the people of Murang’a and that land meant for local residents is restored and allocated transparently in accordance with the law,” he said.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali said the country is being transformed into a personal estate.
