Wamuchomba claims DCI summons over anti-Ruto video ahead of presidential visit

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba during an interview at her office in Northern Bypass on July 18, 2024.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, a fierce critic of President William Ruto, now says she has been summoned by police in Kiambu over what she says was a viral video in which she is seen chanting anti-Ruto slogans with a group of youth.
The video, which emerged on April 4, 2025, was allegedly recorded in Githunguri, Kiambu County, ahead of the President’s tour in the area today April 5.
Ms Wamuchomba had by midday on Saturday not honoured the summons.
"What they are doing is to try and frustrate me ahead of Ruto visit in Githunguri this afternoon. They know people are tired of his lies and fake promises and I wouldn't be muzzled not to speak the truth, “Ms Wamuchomba told Nation.Africa on phone.
Once part of Ruto’s inner circle, Ms Wamuchomba shifted allegiance following impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s fallout with the President.
She has been critical of the government's performance and has accused Dr Ruto of sidelining Mt Kenya voters after their support in the 2022 elections.
The President is currently on a six-day tour of the region.
