President William Ruto has issued an Executive Order reverting the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to Transport Ministry from Interior.
In the new order, President Ruto has further reorganised his government, reassigning some functions and institutions to Ministries and State departments to steer his administration.
“The Executive Order is issued following the full constitution of cabinet, the ranks of principal secretaries in all ministries and state departments and the other senior ranks of the executive,” Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said.
Plans to move NTSA to the Interior Ministry began about four years ago. At the time, the government said the move would enhance operations and facilitate smooth coordination of services.
It also argued that the main actors at NTSA such as police and prison staff who make number plates are in the Interior ministry.
Changes in Mudavadi, Gachagua offices
In the fresh Executive Order No. 1 of 2023, Dr Ruto has also put Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in charge of coffee sector reforms. This comes just weeks after the DP vowed to ruthlessly deal with and dismantle cartels in the coffee, tea, and milk subsectors starting this year .
The president has also elevated their offices, assigning Mr Gachagua and Mr Mudavadi two principal secretaries each, instead of the principal administrative secretaries as earlier indicated.
