Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has maintained that his detectives will conduct an impartial investigation into the fatal shooting of a 35-year-old man, allegedly by an officer attached to State House, insisting that there is no cover-up of the incident.
Mr Muhammed Yusuf Keinan, a police officer attached to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, shot Amos Langat seven times at around 8pm on Sunday.
The incident took place in the Kwa Mungai area of Amboseli in Kawangware, Nairobi County. Mr Muhamed was off duty.
In his statement, the officer claimed that he fired his gun after being attacked by three men on a motorcycle, and who allegedly wanted to steal his Ceska pistol.
A section of Kawangware residents claimed that there is a cover-up at play, as they suggested that Mr Muhammed killed Mr Langat after a fallout over a pool game.
National Police Service spokesperson Michael Muchiri said, on behalf of Mr Kanja, that the investigators will remain professional in their investigations.

“There will be no room for cover-ups,” Muchiri told the Nation on phone.
Mr Muhammed, a police corporal, reported that one of the three men grabbed his Ceska pistol, but he managed to fight back.
He further reported that he shot in the air several times to scare three robbers riding a motorcycle and that he immediately went to Muthangari Police Station after the incident.
Langat succumbed to gunshot injuries in his chest and stomach while receiving treatment at St Mary Immaculate Hospital on Gitanga Road.
A man who claimed to be an eyewitness told the Nation that at some point, Muhammed and Langat were heard quarrelling.
After the officer got hold of his gun, he holstered it and started to walk away.
But Langat, who was allegedly intoxicated, is said to have followed Muhammed while holding a stone.
The officer, according to the witness, reached for his weapon and shot Langat multiple times in the chest and stomach before walking away.
“The two are friends and we have seen them in this place severally,” said another individual who also claimed to be an eyewitness.
This incident mirrors past incidents where police officers have found themselves in questionable circumstances on the use of their weapons.
On March 9, 2025, Police Constable Limo Kipkosgey shot dead his colleague Eric Munga and injured another officer, Philip Kae.
Mr Kipkosgey was allegedly sitting and drinking on his own at the Gigiri police station canteen, before turning on his colleagues.
The GSU officer, after a brief chase, opened fire and a bullet hit a police officer in the hip.
