A CEC from one of the counties in the Rift Valley is licking his wounds after he was abandoned by two women he had ferried to the Devolution conference hoping to have a good time. The man had separately ferried the two women and booked them in two different hotels in Machakos hoping to have a great and tiring three days of carousing. As fate would have it, the two ladies got to know about it, forcing them to run away as the man was still busy facilitating his boss for the opening ceremony on Tuesday. Having incurred a great cost ferrying the mistresses, the man spent the rest of the days in clubs of Machakos town.
County officials boycott governors’ ball
Top officials from the 47 counties caused quite a stir when they boycotted the governors’ ball accusing a senior council official of arrogance and poor interpersonal skills. The group, which included CECs and MCAs, had paid Sh20, 000 each as participation fee, but could not receive their badges while those who did faced hostility from organisers as some were blocked from enjoying lunch at the VIP tents. The lowest point came when the official manhandled one of the CECs and ordered him out of the dinner, forcing others to walk out in solidarity. A first term governor from Ukambani, who witnessed the spectacle, also walked out in protest and never returned.
Rivalry in Tangatanga grows ahead of rally
A top confidant of an MP in Kirinyaga has vowed to ensure that some Tangatanga MPs will not speak in a meeting convened by the Deputy President today. The man, known for his generous handouts and aggressive politics, is annoyed after a demonstration was held in the county in support of the governor. The MPs targeted for the booing and being chased away are loyal DP lieutenants and it will be interesting to watch if the second-in-command will intervene to save what will undoubtedly make or break his campaigns in the county, known for high-octane politics.
MPs almost ruin Oburu event
The rivalry between two female politicians from Homa Bay County played out on Friday afternoon outside United Kenya Club during Oburu Oginga’s book launch. One of them is said to have mobilised a political gang, loosely referred to as “Men in Black” to teach her rival a lesson following long-running supremacy battles on county and party issues. According to our mole, it took cajoling, a little greasing of palms and intervention from senior politicians to diffuse the situation that threatened to add a shameful chapter to what was a successful event attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga and businessman SK Macharia among others. Party officials now fear the rivalry, if not resolved, could soon turn deadly.
Ruto’s Coast ally warms up to ODM
A leading ally of DP William Ruto from the Coast is soon alighting from the UDA bandwagon for Raila Odinga’s party, ODM. The individual who has been a key cog of the DP’s campaign, following him to rallies across the country will be doing this for self-preservation. It turns out that the county is one of ODM’s strongholds and the UDA gospel has failed to sink in and so to be elected, one has to align accordingly. Talk of Town has gathered that the plan is to continue working with the DP after the election. Already, the individual has had three meetings with Mr Odinga’s handlers to undergo a loyalty test. While the receiving party is sceptical about the move, there are those who feel that in the absence of a stronger candidate for the gubernatorial seat, the politician may well fit the bill.
OKA leader preparing ground for exit
One of the OKA leaders has been meeting Deputy President William Ruto and it is not clear whether the two have struck a deal. In what could be a way of softening the ground, lawmakers allied to the principal have started attacking ODM leader Raila Odinga in what could lay the ground for a possible exit. But others insist the principal is grandstanding and waiting for a counter deal from ODM, a strategy which can backfire as the former PM has plenty of alternatives from the region. The rubber will hit the road in the coming few weeks. Watch this space.
