University student jailed for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta
Moi University student Alan Wadi Okengo alias Lieutenant Wadi in a Nairobi court on January 2, 2015, where he was charged with hate speech and insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta. He pleaded guilty and was jailed for two years.
Milimani Law Courts resident magistrate Ann Kaguru said the harsh penalty would serve as a deterrent measure to others with a similar motive.
Mr Wadi was arrested while trying to flee the country at the Busia border on December 31, 2014. He was repatriated to Nairobi by the police.
A fourth-year university student will spend two years in jail for posting on social media unprintable insults against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Alan Wadi Okengo, alias Lieutenant Wadi, was accused of posting the messages on his Facebook account on December 18 and 19 at an unknown place within Kenya.
