BIOGRAPHY


Education Background: Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Kenya School of Law.

He also holds a Diploma in Advanced Public Administration Management from the Galilee International Management Institute (GIMI) in Israel. 

Mr Hassan is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and has practiced law in the private sector since February 1995 specializing in the area of Commercial and Constitutional law.

He has served as Chairperson of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya from November 2011 to January 20, 2017. Before that he served as chairperson of Interim Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya (IIEC) from May 2009 to November 2011 and as a Commissioner of the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) from 2000 to 2006.

He was director, Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) from December 2007 to April 2009.

He was a legal Consultant with UNDP Somalia in the Somalia Constitution Making Project between July  2008 to May 2009.

He has served as an International Elections Consultant for the United Nations Election Support Projects in Afghanistan and Somalia.

Since September 2018 to date, Mr Hassan has served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute ( KIPI), which is a Government of Kenya Institution responsible for Intellectual Property Rights.

He is among 31 legal professionals shortlisted by the Judicial Service Commission in May 2022 for appointment as Court of Appeal judges.
