World 5,000m champion Kenya’s Hellen Obiri wrapped up 2020 in style, winning the Cursa dels Nassos 10km race in 30 minutes and 53 seconds in Barcelona, Spain on New Year’s eve.

Another Kenyan Daniel Simiu eased to victory at San Silvestre 10km run in Madrid also on New Year’s Eve.
Simiu clocked 27:41, beating Faniel Eyob from Italy in 28:08 with Olympic 5,000m silver medallist, Kenyan-born Paul Chelimo from USA coming in third in 28:14.
Ethiopian Yalemzerf Yahualaw reigned supreme in the women’s race in 31:17 after getting the better of world marathon champion Ruth Chepngétich from Kenya in 31:50.
Frenchwoman Alesia Zarbo timed 33:00 for third place.

Chelimo clocked 30:42 beating compatriot Dorcas Jepchirchir to second place by one second as Kenyan-born Norah Jeruto of Kazakhstan came in third in 30:46.
Kenyans Gloria Kite and Janet Kisa wrapped up the top five vanguard in 32:26 and 33:03 respectively.
