What you need to know:

  • The irritated fans want Otieno to resign, and the technical bench to be disbanded.
  • They also want a new coach to be appointed. The loss saw Gor Mahia drop to the sixth position on the log with 17 points from 12 matches.

Gor Mahia’s acting coach, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and his players were forced to leave Sportpesa Arena in Murang’a County using the rear entrance to escape the wrath of angry fans after their team lost 1-0 to Kenya Police in a chaotic Football Kenya Federation Premier League on Saturday.

It was Gor Mahia’s third loss of the season after going down to Bandari FC (2-0) and Bdco United (1-0) early last month.  Alvin Mang’eni scored the all-important goal for Kenya Police in the 68th minute.

One fan and a Kenya Police player were injured when Gor Mahia’s fans went on the rampage and engaged in stone throwing in a show of displeasure following their team’s loss.

The fans also demanded an explanation from the club’s chairman Ambrose Rachier. Gor has performed poorly since Brazilian coach Leonardo Neiva left the club on November 13. The Brazilian’s tenue at the club was cut short after five months due to a spate of poor results.

After Saturday’s match, Gor Mahia fans waited for Otieno and members of the  team’s technical bench at the main entrance. Unbeknownst to them, Otieno and the players left the stadium via the rear entrance.

It was the third consecutive time Otieno was forced to flee from the fans. The other incidents came after the team drew 1-1 against Bidco United mid last week, and after the team suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Bidco United last weekend.

The irritated fans want Otieno to resign, and the technical bench to be disbanded. They also want a new coach to be appointed. The loss saw Gor Mahia drop to the sixth position on the log with 17 points from 12 matches.
