Kenya Police sides gear up for new season

Kenya Police men and women's teams are optimistic of doing well after beefing up their squads in readiness for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.
Police have signed Ugandan talisman Alfred Leku from Kiyovu Sports (Rwanda), Senegalese El Hadji Abdou Karim, former Tusker FC winger Eric Zakayo, and Jaffari Owiti from AFC Leopards. Other new signings are Jackson Macharia, Brian Musa, Geoffrey Onyango, Daniel Sakari, and goalkeeper John Samuel Njau.
The policemen defeated KCB 8-7 in post-match penalties in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup final in June to qualify for the 2024-2025 (CAF Confederation Cup where they will face Ethiopian Coffee on August 18 and 25 in the first qualifying round.
On the other hand, FKF Women’s Premier League winners Police Bullets have acquired the services of Harambee Starlets skipper and defender Elizabeth Ochaka, midfielder Jane Hato, goalkeeper Annedy Kundu, Christine Nafula, Norah Ann, Bertha Omita, and Emily Moranga.
Police Bullets will play in the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers slated for August 17 to September 4 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. They are in Group “A” alongside C.B.E FC (Ethiopia), Yei Joint FC (South Sudan), Warrior Queens (Zanzibar), and Rayon Sports Women (Rwanda).
The 16 players were unveiled during Police FC Day celebrations at the Police DT Sacco Stadium last weekend graced by Principal Secretary Ministry of Interior and National Administration Dr Raymond Ommolo, Commandant National Police Training College Kiganjo Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police (SAIG) Nyale Munga, Board of Trustees, NBK Managing Director George Odhiambo, Police DT Sacco chairman David Madegwa and a dozen partners.
The Police FC Academy was also launched during the celebrations. It will hone the skills of players’ Under-9, U-12, U-13, and U-15 teams. Police also strongly partnered with Upper Hill School and Olympic Girls Secondary School for the U-17 talent sustenance.
Ommolo, who also serves as the club's patron, said the new talent academy is key to talent sustenance.
Munga, the club's Executive Chairman, noted that it had also initiated a 60-day process to review and ratify its Constitution, promoting inclusivity and good governance. In the spirit of transparency, Police FC will publish its audited accounts in the forthcoming months.
The club's Board of Trustees chairman, Bishop Dr Fred Akama, lauded the partners for their solid team sponsorship during the concluded season and the partners of the Annual Kenya Police FC Day.
"The sponsors have been a huge part of the club's success. We laud DTB Bank, National Bank of Kenya, 748 Air Services, and Betika for investing in our project of the future soccer giants," said Akama.
