What you need to know:
- AFC Leopards will host Murang’a Seal at the Nyayo National Stadium on Sunday from 4pm.
- Kenya Police FC will travel to Murang’a where Tusker will host them in a 2pm kick-off.
Twelve-time Kenyan champions AFC Leopards and reigning FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC were the only unbeaten teams in the league this season until they suffered 2-0 defeats to Mara Sugar and Gor Mahia respectively last weekend.
The two clubs will hope to return to winning ways on Sunday when they feature in the day’s only league matches.
AFC Leopards will host Murang’a Seal at the Nyayo National Stadium from 4pm. Kenya Police FC will travel to Murang’a where Tusker will host them in a 2pm kick-off at the SportPesa Arena.
AFC Leopards and Tusker are tied on 12 points but Ingwe are placed higher than the brewers in fifth spot on goal difference. Similarly, Police (11th) and Murang’a Seal (13th) are also tied on eight points but separated by goal difference.
Wins for AFC Leopards and Tusker will see the two clubs draw level with Kakamega Homeboyz in second place with 15 points, one less than league leaders Gor Mahia.
On the other hand, victories for Murang’a Seal and Police FC will increase competition at the top of the league table. Wins for the two clubs will increase their points tally to 11, creating a situation where the top 12 teams will be separated by just five points.
Tusker are on a five match unbeaten against Police FC in the league with the brewers winning thrice and drawing twice in that streak. Tusker’s last loss against the law enforcers was on January 28, 2023, when they lost 3-0, marking the only time that Kenya Police won a league match against the brewers.
Similarly, Murang’a Seal have won only once in six matches against AFC Leopards since their promotion to the top flight in 2022. The other five matches yielded two draws and three wins for Ingwe. Murang’a Seal’s sole victory against Leopards came last season in a 1-0 win at home. Murang’a Seal picked up four points from Leopards last season after holding them to a 1-1 draw away.
Speaking after his team’s loss to Mara Sugar, AFC Leopards coach Fred Ambani blamed the defeat on the poor playing surface of Awendo’s Green Stadium.

“The pitch was horrible and we could not play our usual game,” Ambani told the league’s official broadcasters Azam.
On his part, Tusker FC’s coach Charles Okere told Nation Sport earlier in the week that his team will be aiming for consistency after overcoming a difficult start to the season. Tusker had collected two points from their first four matches before hitting a purple patch that saw them pick 10 points in four matches.
“I appreciate the effort made by players in making this turnaround possible. We have had tough matches and we are now competitive again after losing key players,” Okere had said.
“We have a new team of young players. Hence, we have been in a phase of rebuilding and that requires patience. We have been working on our cohesion and psychological part of the game,” he added.
Kenya Police FC’s new coach, the Serbian Dusan Stojanovic, will be hoping that his team will be more alert when playing against the 13-time league champions. Stojanovic had blamed his team’s loss to Gor Mahia on mistakes that gifted K’Ogalo easy goals.
“We gifted Gor Mahia both goals and they punished us,” he said.
Murang’a Seal are unbeaten in three league matches since losing 1-0 at home to Tusker on October 26. Following their 1-1 draw away to Kakamega Homeboyz last week, their coach Osborne Monday said the results have grown the team’s confidence after they collected only three points in their first five matches.
“Playing away is not easy and drawing against a tough opponent like Kakamega Homeboyz will give us confidence that will go a long way. We look forward to a good performance against AFC Leopards,” Monday had told the club’s media.
