After stunning proud giants Gor Mahia 2-1 in the Mozzart Bet FKF Cup final at Ulinzi Complex last month, Nairobi United are now eager to test themselves in the Football Kenya Premier League (FKF-PL).

The side, coached Nicholas Muyoti, 48, earned their place in Kenya’s top tier club competition after winning the 2024/2025 National Super League.

Nairobi United aka “Naiboi” guaranteed themselves the NSL title with three matches to spare to underline their potency.

They eventually finished with 72 points, from 21 games and nine draws while scoring 56 goals against 26 conceded.

Speaking to Nation Sports yesterday, Nairobi United coach, former AFC Leopards and Kenya international midfielder Nicholas Muyoti said he knew exactly what they need to do to challenge for honours next season.

“We will be looking to maintain the same momentum that earned us the NSL title.

“I thank the club leadership and the teamwork exhibited by the players for our success. We can only aim higher, and we know how to do that.”

Muyoti revealed that he had already recruited six players that he was not ready to name yet.

The team is on a two-week break before starting training for the new season.

Muyoti, a CAF B license holder turned down a request to deputize newly appointed Robert Matano at KCB in favour of continuing his project with Nairobi United.

That project donated seven players to the Rising Stars squad that participate in the Under-20 Afcon finals in Cairo in May.

The players are Kevin Oduor, Brian Sifa, Hakim Chumbe, Adrian Oloo, Isaac Omweri and Duncan Omala.

Nairobi United was formed in 2015 as Balaji EPZ FC and re-branded to Nairobi United FC in 2022, after winning the Regional League title.

In September 2024, Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja, through Sakaja Foundation acquired the team and invested in players’ development, infrastructure and recruitment.

“Naibois” will be joined in the Premier League by Police Service (APS) Bomet who finished second in the NSL.

ABS Bomet will be the first team from Bomet County to play in the Kenyan Premier League, and the third from South Rift region after the Brooke Bond FC and Zoo Kericho, both from the neigbouring Kericho County.

Bomet FC Chief Executive Officer, Rose Chemutai said they plan to embark on serious training after acquiring the services of former Gor Mahia assistant coach Michael Ouma Nam who officially joined them yesterday.

She said Evans Mafuta a CAF B licensed holder who led them to promotion will be retained together with the bulk of players who did duty last season.

Naivas FC, who ended the NSL campaign in the third place for the second time consecutively, once again fell short in the promotion/relegation play-offs, a repeat at their previous season’s heartbreak against Sofapaka FC who retained their FKF-PL status on 2-0 win on aggregate.

In the recent FKF Premier League play-offs, Naivas, coached by former Ulinzi Stars star Elvis Ayany, were eliminated by Posta Rangers 2-1 on aggregate.

The mail men, under the tutelage of former international Sammy Omollo “Pamzo”, finished 16th in the top flight football, and needed a 2-0 aggregate win the play-offs against Naivas to retain their top status.
