With three additional events having been added in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series besides the proposed international tournaments to be held in and outside the country, 2022 is certainly going to be a busy year for Kenyan golfers.
Going by this year’s national calendar of events released by the Kenya Golf Union (KGU), the three added events in the KAGC are Golf Park tournament at Golf Park on May 14 and 15, the Malindi Open to be held at the Malindi Sports Club on August 27 and 28 and the Kiambu Open from November 19 to 20.
All the three events will be played over 36 holes, while the international tournaments include the Magical Kenya Open, a European Tour event scheduled for March 3 to 6, at Muthaiga Golf Club.
Others will be the Africa Regional Four Amateur Championship in Uganda, with the dates to be confirmed later, as well as the Victoria Cup between Kenya and Uganda national teams, whose 2021 edition was to take place at Nyali Golf and Country Club, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19.
The date of this event will equally be announced later. Also listed is the Eisenhower Trophy at the Le Golf National in France from September 1 to 4 where Kenya is expected to send a team.
Also lined up is the All Africa Team Golf Championship, whose dates and venue are yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, the Tannahill Shield (Easter tournament), Kenya’s only major inter-club or team amateur championship at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, will take place from April 15 to 17.
