What you need to know:

  • Esports Kenya President Ronny Lusigi called on teams and fans to participate in the experience.
  • "Phygital is an exciting and innovative concept. This is the digital era, and it's high time that sport's digital and physical worlds merged. We expect exciting competition at the national stage and excellent performances from those who make it to Dubai," Lusigi told Nation Sport on Tuesday.

Esports Kenya will host the first Kenya Phygital Cup on January 25 at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi.

The one-day competition will be an open category for men and women. Two categories in this year's competition feature phygital football and phygital basketball with 16-team slots each.

Phygital football consists of a 5v5 football match alongside a PlayStation 5 match, while phygital basketball includes a 2v2 basketball match and a PlayStation 5 match.

This unique competition blends physical sports with esports, hence the term "Phygital," under the governance of the World Phygital Community (WPC).

The event will be used to pick a tea to represent Kenya at the global Games of the Future 2025 in Dubai featuring 40 international teams.
