Kenya Sevens lose to South Africa in Dubai Cup quarters

What you need to know:

  • Argentina will take on Australia in the other Cup semi-final at 1.24pm.
  • Australia stopped Ireland 24-12 while Argentina beat Great Britain 33-12.
  • Ireland and Great Britain will face-off in the other semi-final for the fifth place.

A late rally from Kenya Sevens proved futile as they lost to South Africa 31-19 in the Cup quarter-final of Dubai Sevens II at the Sevens Stadium, United Arab Emirates on Saturday.

Kenya's three tries from Alvin Marube in the first half and Timothy Mmasi and Jeffrey Oluoch in the second session, were not enough against South Africa's five tries.

South Africa, who led 17-7 at the break, advanced to the semi-final where they will face France at 1.46pm who blew away United States 28-17 in the other quarter-final.

Kenya Sevens, who for the second consecutive time failed to go past the quarter-final, will now meet United States in the semi-final for fifth place at 12.57pm.

Argentina will take on Australia in the other Cup semi-final at 1.24pm.

Australia stopped Ireland 24-12 while Argentina beat Great Britain 33-12.

Ireland and Great Britain will face-off in the other semi-final for the fifth place.

South Africa won Dubai Sevens I after beating United States 42-7 in the final the previous weekend as Argentina settled for bronze after edging out Olympic champions Fiji 19-12 in the play-off.
