Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has banned East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Falhada Iman from Parliament precincts for 90 days following her altercation with Nominated MP Umi Harun yesterday.

The two leaders were caught on video fighting on the parliamentary precincts on Tuesday evening.

During the 90-day period, Ms Falhada will not be allowed to use any parliamentary facility pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter by the House.

The EALA lawmaker is expected to submit a written explanation of the incident to the Speaker by 5pm on Monday next week.

“It’s regrettable that having been accorded such privileges, Ms Falhada conducted herself in an undignified manner,” Mr Wetang’ula said.

Ms Harun has since apologised.

I'm sorry, MP caught up in fight tells Parliament

Despite the apology, Mr Wetang’ula said she isn't off the hook until he gets Ms Falhada's side of the story.

Mr Wetang’ula regretted that the incident has cast Parliament in bad light.

“Upon review of the explanation by Falhada, I’ll further guide the House on the action to be taken of the two,” he said.

The Speaker said action will also be taken against the MP who recorded the incident.

“You are called honourable because you are people of honour, and this honour is not yours, it’s for the people who sent you here,” Mr Wetang’ula said.
