Business owners operating on Rhapta Road, Westlands, on Friday chased away demolition crews that had descended around 10am to flatten their shops.

The shopkeepers alleged that they were sent by a local MCA.

They insisted that they have been been operating on Rhapta Road for over 15 years, adding that they were not shown any documents authorising destruction of their shops.

On Tuesday, they were informed that they needed to vacate.

The drama brought traffic on Rhapta Road to a standstill.
