Kenya’s coastline is one of Africa’s most iconic tourism assets. From the pristine white sands of Diani to the cultural legacy of Lamu and the historic charm of Mombasa, the Coast has been celebrated as a tranquil leisure destination; a paradise for holidays, relaxation and travel.

Yet, as tourism evolves, it is clear that our coastal corridor harbours a far greater untapped economic engine: Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE).

Kenya’s tourism is delivering record growth, with annual international arrivals expanding to 2.76 million and earnings reaching Sh564 billion. This surge signals strong confidence in Kenya while highlighting a move towards diversification.

At the forefront of this economic shift is business tourism. Accounting for 25 to 30 per cent of international arrivals, MICE visitors represent one of the most high-yielding segments in the value chain, spending two to three times more per visit than leisure travellers. Expanding MICE capability addresses the long-standing challenge of seasonal occupancy fluctuations.

Kenya’s MICE activity has been concentrated in Nairobi due to its conference infrastructure. While Nairobi established itself as East Africa’s business hub, the Coast remained underutilised despite offering a superior value proposition: ability to blend high-level corporate business with world-class leisure – bleisure.

World-class infrastructure

To address the imbalance, PrideInn set out to redefine East Africa’s MICE. Putting Mombasa on the global conference circuit demanded more than ambition, it required purpose-built, world-class infrastructure.

That vision found its flagbearer in Tembo International Convention Centre. This centre has redefined what coastal Kenya can deliver to the world business community. By introducing state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities, flexible multi-hub seating configurations and dedicated mega-event hosting infrastructure, Tembo has transformed Mombasa into a primary global MICE destination.

Our commitment extends beyond offering meeting spaces. We are actively driving an infrastructure revolution in the Coast.

As global corporate travel expands, PrideInn remains steadfast in its mission to champion coastal Kenya. Through investment, strategic innovation and promotion of the Coast, we are participating in Kenya’s tourism recovery and cementing Mombasa’s status as Africa’s premier convention hub.

Unlocking the full potential of Kenya’s coastline requires a departure from tradition. By expanding our conference capabilities and setting new benchmarks for excellence, PrideInn is ensuring Mombasa stands tall on the global stage as a paradise for leisure and the vibrant, undisputed engine of East Africa’s MICE economy.
