Why Ruto’s ‘Singapore dream’ will be hard to achieve

Frivolous expenditure • The ‘Singapore dream’ President William Ruto is chasing will not be easy to realise, says Evans Ombongi. “It takes, especially, great financial discipline to attain meaningful achievements. A country that is serious about its ambitions doesn’t expend it precious resources on frivolous expenditure. It recalibrates to get its priorities right.” His contact is [email protected].

Farouk’s focus • Conspicuously absent from the campaigns for the Mbeere North by-election was President Ruto’s personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, notes Jimmy Thumbi. “He didn’t show any interest in the Mt Kenya region except when castigating former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, he preferred to concentrate his efforts in western Kenya.” His contact is [email protected].

Hawking ODM • New ODM party leader Oburu Oginga finds himself between a rock and a hard place, says Taabu Tele. “He’s damned whether he sides with the broad-based wing of the party, and even more if he goes with the radical lot. He’ll need unadulterated wisdom and steadfastness to contain Raila Odinga orphans and those hawking ODM to political vultures.” His contact is [email protected].

Dilapidated school • Keen to see standards raised in education, David Githae is unhappy that some schools have been neglected. “Kiria-ini Girls School in Murang’a County is not visually appealing. It has some deficiencies, including an unkempt fence, poor road, faded painting, cracked floors, and unkempt flowers. Can the administration do something about this?” His contact is [email protected]

Reversal joke • Safaricom’s system for reversing wrong money transfers on M-Pesa has become a big joke, remarks Dave Tumbula. “After a customer sends a reversal request using the code *456#, the recipient is contacted by the giant telco and if he or she declines, the real owner of the money is advised to report the matter to the police. If that is the case, then why have the reversal service?”
