Chaotic polls• The chaotic Tanzanian elections in which hundreds of people were killed by security personnel, “may just be a dress rehearsal for the bloody mayhem that is loading in the run-up to Uganda’s poll next year and the Kenyan vote in 2027”, Jim Okwako warns. “The electoral agencies should even seek international support to run free and fair elections in these two countries to avert disaster.”

Voter registration • The IEBC should go out and sensitise citizens and boost voter registration, says Evans Macharia Mwangi. “You only require a national identity card to enlist. Unlike in the past, when the electoral agency used to issue a voter’s card, it’s no longer a requirement. Politicians should stop misleading wananchi on this vital issue.” His email address is [email protected].

Bad city roads • As Nairobi City County is giving building owners ultimatums to repaint their premises, James Githinji says, it’s also time to hold leaders accountable. “Governor Johnson Sakaja and his team should also be required to repair roads. They include Argwings Kodhek Road, which now resembles a lunar surface after the tarmac was scraped off for repairs not done.” His contact is [email protected].

CBC strengths • The competency-based education (CBE) is aimed at helping learners to discover their talents and nurture them to eke out a living instead of depending on employment, says F. Mukembu. “If talent academies are put up and managed well, they will help to solve the problem of joblessness, which afflicts many young people, including university graduates.” His contact is [email protected].

Great broadcaster • As the country mourns great broadcaster and master of ceremonies Sammy Lui, Mwangi wa Karuga is thrilled to know his real name was Samuel Warui Wang’ondu, who hailed from Mathira in today’s Nyeri County. “For his polished accent in English and Kiswahili, one wouldn’t have easily guessed where he came from. He’s among the country’s heroes!” His contact is [email protected].
