Suspicious • The Cabinet decision to establish a Sovereign Wealth Fund should be rejected and challenged in court, says Prof Sam Chege. Writing from Kansas, US, he adds: “The Consolidated Fund controlled by Parliament exists for that same purpose of pooling national resources for development. I find it suspicious that the new one will be operated by State House.” His contact is [email protected].

Good move • The government’s decision to eliminate the cut-throat competition in primary school with the low-key release of the KJSEA results is commendable, says Limo Esquire. “Education is a public good being commercialised by private schools exploiting the performance of students. They gain commercial success from higher enrolment. It’s wrong!” His contact is [email protected].

Inconvenience • A Kenya Airways flight, KQ 609, from Mombasa to Nairobi, James Gakuo reports, was delayed for several hours on December 13. Scheduled for 2pm, it finally took off at 6:30pm for the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. “No reasons were given for the delay. They shouldn’t allocate a big plane to save money while inconveniencing passengers.” His contact is [email protected].

Traffic • The dualling of roads is okay, but without proper planning, traffic jams into towns will persist, says Robin Maremma. “Most of the traffic feeds into the suburbs of satellite towns and without bypasses, the traffic nightmare will never cease. To clear this bottleneck, towns such as Ngong, Ongata Rongai and Kitengela urgently need ring roads.” His contact is [email protected].

Shameless • What use is it having a presidential election when those opposing the incumbent can’t campaign? asks Jim Okwako, keenly watching events in Uganda. “Bobby Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi), who is challenging President Yoweri Museveni, is often blocked from reaching rallies and when he does, police fire tear gas and unleash water cannon. It’s a shameless brutalisation of democracy.”

Have a democratic day, won’t you!
