Support • President William Ruto’s announcement that the Social Health Authority (SHA) will pay premiums for some poor Kenyans to enable them to access quality healthcare is laudable, says John Njuguna. But he wishes the government could go a step further. “It should authorise SHA to provide health insurance to all senior citizens and persons with disabilities.” His contact is [email protected].

Ill-gotten • The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Karongo Mbu says, has registered some remarkable success in tracing unaccounted for wealth. The EACC, he suggests, should only go after the ill-gotten wealth where even the threshold of culpability is lower. “Criminal justice should only be used where the evidence available is overwhelming.” His contact is [email protected].

Appeal • A beneficiary since August 2019 of the Sh2,000 monthly Inua Jamii stipend for the elderly, 87-year-old Nabat Jamal says it was discontinued in January without any notice or explanation. “I’m not getting any younger or healthier and had hoped it would have been increased instead. Can the authorities explain what is happening and clear the mess?” His contact is [email protected].

Suspect • The clamour by senior secondary school heads to be allowed to start their own junior school wings is suspect, says Eliakim Limo. “What immediately comes to mind is that this is driven by dishonesty as these principals are only eyeing the capitation funds provided for the junior schools now being accommodated in primary schools.” His contact is [email protected].

Morale • The national soccer team Harambee Stars’ 5-0 thumping of tiny Seychelles should serve as a morale booster after its humiliating loss to The Gambia in Nairobi, says Dave Tumbula. “New coach Benni McCarthy needs time to get to know the players better and come up with a winning combination. The players, as their captain, Michael Olunga, says, need support and not online humiliation.”
Have a supportive day, won’t you!
