Ruto’s Sh1.2bn church at State House is strange
The Western view in daytime of the massive church whose construction is ongoing within the grounds of State House, Nairobi.
Unbelievable • President William Ruto’s confirmation that he’s, indeed, building a Sh1.2 billion 8,000-capacity church at State House, Nairobi, “sounds like a fairy tale”, remarks W. Kimariech. He poses: “How can he do this on protected public land, and are a mosque and a temple also in the offing? Will it be open to the public and won’t that be a serious security issue?” His contact is [email protected].

Madness • The numerous special advisers hired by President Ruto at a high cost to the taxpayer are not helping him at all, says Dr Kennedy Miyoro Mochabo. The recent Nation expose on the building of a mega Sh1.2 billion church at State House, the seat of power, he says, “clearly indicates some level of madness or dictatorship, and the advisers are failing him”. No consultation • Since public participation is a constitutional requirement, Jim Webo wonders why President Ruto didn’t see the necessity of asking even Nairobi residents to give their views before he started building the super State House church. “Or can this provision be selectively applied? He may be the official tenant now, but the property certainly doesn’t belong to him. It’s a public asset.”

Road pain • The Ngong-Suswa road is now said to have been opened, but Njunge Ndugire is not impressed. Says he: “To get to it you go through a treacherous section of Ngong Road from Karen, Nairobi, to Ngong town, an eight-kilometre single lane.” He is, therefore, appealing to the roads authorities to urgently consider dualising this section to ease the traffic flow. Green city • Medellin, the Colombian city notorious for drug trafficking, is charting a new impressive course with its Green Corridor, says Brian Maitai. “This is a thick belt of mixed fruit and non-fruit trees designed to trap greenhouse gas emissions. It has lowered the temperature by two degrees centigrade. Why can’t this be replicated in Nairobi?” His contact is [email protected].
Have an exemplary day, won’t you!
