Graft fight • Whoever said the trick to make a school of sharks annihilate itself was to injure one and spill blood for others to smell and go for one another was right, says David M. Kigo. “President William Ruto’s onslaught on MPs, whom he accuses of extorting bribes through parliamentary committees, may lead to blood being spilt. But the annihilation might not happen.” His contact is [email protected].

Unanswered prayers • Africa, Mista Nyambati strongly believes, “is the most religious continent” on the entire globe. Says he: “We pray, fast and tithe more than anyone else. Yet, we continue to suffer the biggest chunk of the world’s diseases, poverty, illiteracy, famine and even wars. Is the deity that we all pray to both racist and deaf? Who can solve this paradox for me?” His contact is [email protected].

City of sin • Visiting Mombasa after 10 years, Shainaz Khan says her friends from the United Kingdom, who came hoping to “relive their coastal Islamic vibe”, have been very disappointed. She adds: “Instead, they found a city steeped in vice that openly plays out. What a sad decline for a place that was once known for its dignity and rich cultural depth!” Her email address is [email protected].

Fallen giant • Kiswahili scholar John Habwe’s death is a big blow to the country, the East African region and the world, says Franklin Mukembu. “But Prof Habwe’s works, especially in Kiswahili, linguistics and literature, will live on. A better way to mourn him is to read his works. My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends and the University of Nairobi.” His contact is [email protected].

Bullfighting • What a superb write-up of the traditional bullfighting sport in western Kenya, says Robert Mukirae. “The article was a brilliant illustration of the ethos, history and culture of the ‘Ingo (Luhyaland)’ animal sport. Our local Hemingway needed to capture this in prose and verse for posterity, to be perpetuated and edified by our descendants. Hongera, Sunday Nation!” His contact is [email protected].

Have a fascinating day, won’t you!
