Education crisis • The government should implement austerity measures to reduce expenditure and solve the education sector’s funding crisis, says Douglas Kaumbuthu Aritho. "It’s disheartening to note the financing of lavish events and non-essential projects. Public funds should be used well as the authorities prioritise initiatives that have a meaningful impact on the lives of taxpayers and other citizens.” His contact is [email protected].

Sluggish response • The Kenya Power emergency team makes a mockery of itself as it takes days or even weeks to rectify a problem, says David M. Kigo. “At Njathaini in Kanyariri, Kiambu County, along Wamuroki road, a cable was vandalised two weeks ago after a tree branch fell on the line, disconnecting power. Residents have been calling the team daily, in vain.” His contact is [email protected].

Power rip-off • After he applied for a power connection to his plot, Charles Mang’unyi was stunned on being hit with a Sh156,000 quotation. Says he: “The nearest electricity post is a stone’s throw away. My visit to the local Kenya Power office for a revision didn’t bear fruit despite waiting for over two hours.” The reference is No. E24312025120044, and he can be reached on Tel 0722114528.

Bad road • The Mua Hills road in Machakos County is full of deep potholes, says Joseph Nthale, accusing Governor Wavinya Ndeti of ignoring this neighbourhood located near the border with Nairobi. “This potholed road, which passes by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s palatial rural home, is an embarrassment to all, as motorists struggle to reach the Mombasa highway.” His email address is [email protected].

Old lines • Mobile phone service providers Safaricom and Airtel have been selling customers’ lines to other users without notice, but citing dormancy, says Moses Kariri. “This causes the new owners the agony of receiving endless calls meant for the old ones. Others are losing money through M-Pesa and Airtel Money. The service providers should stop this unfair practice.” His email address is [email protected].
