Vote out all MPs to pave way for honest leaders
Parliament buildings in Nairobi.
Bribery • House of Shame is how Paul Khaemba describes the conduct of the 13th Parliament. Says he: “It’s absurd and distasteful that MPs expected to carry out oversight in parliamentary committees to fight corruption are instead propagating it. They are agents of extortion, demanding money to pass Bills. They should be voted out next year to pave the way for honest leaders.” His contact is [email protected].

Pension • The UDA party’s proposal to create a pension scheme for governors, speakers and MCAs is wrong, says Joseph Macharia. “These elected leaders work on a contract between them and the voters and are, therefore, not on permanent and pensionable terms. This is why they are remunerated well above normal rates. This move is in bad taste and should be rejected.” His contact is [email protected].

Safety • Keen road safety watcher Ian Mgenyi says that though Langata Road, Nairobi, is well-maintained, it has one flaw. “On the Wilson Airport to Lang’ata Barracks road, the barrier separating this dual carriageway is neglected. Motor vehicles, including trucks, cross with impunity to the opposite side, oblivious to the turning points. A lorry accident confirmed the need to fix it.” His contact is [email protected].

Phone snatchers • The night-time mobile phone snatchers at the Kangemi Market stage in Nairobi are back with a vengeance, warns James Enyukor. “They target passengers in the rear matatu seats, masquerading as touts. Some can be seen at a thicket near the Kalro gate and the former Wellcome Kenya Ltd, where they partake of illegal substances. Where are the police?” His contact is [email protected].

Reversal • Airtel Money subscriber Philip Nyasio is desperate about an erroneous transaction that he made recently, which he sincerely hopes will be reversed to save him the agony. Says he: “I’m writing to request a reversal for the transaction made via Airtel Money to Zuku. Transaction ID: H3IB997MCK3, the amount: KES 944, date & time: January 30, 10:28 pm, and the recipient: Zuku.” His contact is [email protected].
Have an alert day, won’t you!
