Nearly two decades since he served as the Vice-President, prison reforms remain a key part of Mr Moody Awori’s legacy. The former VP is remembered for shifting the country’s prisons set-up from a punitive to a rehabilitative system.
During his tenure as the Home Affairs minister (2003–2008), he prioritised inmate dignity, human rights, and better living conditions. Indeed, inmates should serve their terms to fully pay for their crimes, but should not be subjected to inhuman conditions.
