Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has announced an opportunity for teachers with P1 or Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) certificates to upgrade their qualifications to diploma level.
The upgrade programme is the newest student placement product by KUCCPS as it continues to expand opportunities for Kenyans to access higher education and training. This follows successful introduction of Kenya School of Law’s Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies) on the KUCCPS application system, which attracted over 800 applications for 500 admission vacancies this year.
KUCCPS has opened its online placement application system for interested teachers with the certificate qualifications to apply for placement to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
The teachers will select their preferred Teacher Training College (TTC), which will offer the programme through a flexible training schedule starting this month or during the November-December school holidays.
To be eligible, the teachers must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The application opened on August 6, 2025, and will run continually with brief stops for processing of received applications. The initial deadline is August 20, 2025.
The initiative aims to enhance the skills of teachers holding P1 or ECDE certificates and empower them to meet the demands of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system whose implementation is ongoing.
“The upgrade programme will ensure that there are no shortages of teachers who are well prepared to deliver the Competency Based Curriculum, especially at the lower levels of learning,” says KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr Agnes Mercy Wahome. “KUCCPS encourages all eligible teachers to seize the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and invest in the future of Kenya’s education system.”
Applications are to be submitted online through a dedicated KUCCPS portal accessible through the link https://teachersupgrade.kuccps.ac.ke/
The Placement Service has also re-opened application for placement to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for September 2025 intake. The TVET application will run from August 8-22, 2025. To enhance access and uptake, KUCCPS has reduced TVET application fee from Ksh1,500 to Ksh500.
