WhatsApp Web hit by widespread outage
WhatsApp Web was down for several users across the globe on Monday, according to outage tracking website downdetector.com.
The outage, which began around 10am East African time, intensified after approximately one hour, affecting business and personal communications.
According to Downdetector, the online disruption tracking platform, the outage primarily affects WhatsApp’s web interface across all browsers.
“Current data shows that 57 percent of users reported WhatsApp Web access issues, while 34 percent flagged general app outage problems. The extent of impact on mobile platforms, including Android and iOS versions, remains uncertain at this time,” downdetector.com said.
Meta, the US tech giant company that owns WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram, had yet to issue a communication on the outage by press time.
Downdetector offers real-time status and outage information for all kinds of services that users consider vital to their every day lives and work.
Meanwhile, several WhatsApp Web users took to other social media platforms like X and Facebook to voice their concerns over the outage. They highlighted the inconvenience caused by the disruption, particularly for those relying on the platform for business communication.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp experienced a significant outage that left users unable to send or receive messages, update their status or change their profile pictures.
These recurring issues have highlighted the platform's vulnerability to technical disruptions.
