Tension mounted as the whistle-blowing youths harassed motorists as traders hurriedly closed their businesses, fearing looting.
The protestors demanded that the government urgently intervenes to bring down the cost of living and end the suffering of Kenyans.
"The increase of fuel prices is making things worse for Kenyans,” one of young man said.

It was then that the police charged at the crowd and fierce battle broke out, causing tension in the area.
Traders and residents retreated to safety, leaving the town deserted.
