  • Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya said he suspected that the thefts could be an inside job.

Grounded government vehicles parked at Isiolo county commissioner’s headquarters have been vandalised for the last three months.

Investigations show that several government offices have also been looted despite security officers manning the premises round the clock.

The issue has raised concern with most civil servants resorting to parking their vehicles outside the premises.

Speaking to journalists in his office Monday, National Drought Management Authority County Coordinator Lordman Lekalkuli said three vehicles belonging to the department had been vandalised.

He noted that parts of a GK Toyota Land Cruiser and a Land Rover were vandalised last weekend.

Among the items stolen were an injector pump, a propeller shaft, a gear box and a starter.

“I reported the matter to the police when the first incident happened three months ago but no action has been taken so far,” he said.

The Agricultural Sector Development Support Programme section said its curtains were stolen twice.

UNGUARDED ENTRIES

Cases of looting of government properties have been attributed to entries within the premises which are not guarded.

Meanwhile, several government offices have also raised the alarm over the theft of computers.

Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya said he suspected that the thefts could be an inside job with some officers manning the main entrance colluding with the thieves.

He said it was a government policy for car owners to hand over their vehicles and car keys to security officials so as to track down suspects whenever such incidents occur.

“This government premise should be the most secure place to be in.

“It is so unfortunate that such incidents take place at this institution,” said Mr Natembeya.

He said security officers will be deployed to enhance security at the government premises adding that all routes leading to the premises except the main gate will be sealed.

The county commissioner urged public servants to report theft cases immediately they occur for investigations to be done.
