Mystery as 4 bodies recovered from Kiambu rivers in 24 hours

Mystery continues to surround the killings of three men and one woman whose bodies were found two days ago.

The bodies of a man and woman were found floating in Masinga Dam on Sunday evening and were moved to the General Kago Funeral Home in Thika, Masinga Police Commander Ali Rashid told the Nation.

Another body was retrieved near a riverbank on the Kiambu-Machakos boundary the same day.

“We have transferred the bodies of the two to General Kago Funeral Home. The man seemed to have been tortured and his eyes hit and plucked out, but the woman’s body was intact and had no physical injuries. Their bodies were found close to one another,” Mr Rashid said.

The three bodies were found on the same day police in Ruiru, Kiambu, also retrieved the body of an unidentified man that was found floating in River Ruiru.

Ruiru Commander Cecilia Kemboi told the Nation that the body, which had started to decompose, had no physical injuries. The body has since been moved to City Mortuary, Nairobi.

This comes at a time when families of other three men from Gatundu South, Kiambu remain a worried lot after their kin disappeared about a month ago. The three were reportedly picked up by people believed to be police officers.

The latest case is that of Mr Stanley Mutua, a 34-year-old businessman who is alleged to have been picked from his shop at Kimunyu trading centre in Gatundu South over two weeks ago.

Relatives said Mr Mutua, who operated a phone repair and electronics shop, was confronted by six men in civilian clothes on September 3 at his shop and forced into a private vehicle. His whereabouts remain unknown.

His brother Kennedy Kimathi and his wife Ann Muthoni said they had searched for the father of one in police stations in vain and have asked the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to intervene.

Gatundu South Police Commander Wilmot Mwakio told the Nation the man was not in any of the police stations within Kiambu County.

Mr Mutua’s friend, Mr Michael Mwangi, who also works at the phone repair shop, said some of the people who took his colleague are known local police officers. Villagers said the abduction of Mr Mutua is the latest case of youths from the area disappearing after allegedly being arrested by policemen.

Others are boda boda rider Moses Ndegwa, who was abducted on September 1 at Kimunyu by a gun-wielding man who ordered him into a private vehicle. He has not been seen since.

Mr Eliud Njoroge was abducted in February this year. His grandfather Sebastian Kariuki said the young man, who was a loader, was arrested while waiting to offload a sand truck at the nearby Murram trading centre. He too was bundled into a private vehicle and has not been seen since.

Villagers expressed concern over the abductions and said if the youths were arrested by police they should be taken to court.
