Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Coastal region residents to back President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, arguing that a second term would allow him to complete the multi-billion-shilling development projects initiated in the area.

While attending a resource mobilisation drive for small-scale traders in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County, alongside other UDA leaders, Prof Kindiki stated that President Ruto has earned the support of the Coast, citing the billions of shillings his administration is investing to transform the local economy.

“We are constructing roads, expanding electricity connections, and ensuring the blue economy benefits residents. The call for two terms is about sustainable development in roads, electricity connectivity, youth and women empowerment, the blue economy, and affordable housing,” said the Deputy President.

He added that the government is spending up to Sh12.8 billion on a development plan targeting the entire country, with the Coastal region as a primary focus.

Prof Kindiki criticised the united opposition, arguing that they have nothing to offer compared to the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition, which is focusing on development projects rather than empty slogans.

“Our opponents come here and leave without articulating how they will improve roads, expand electricity connections, or grow the blue economy. Instead, they are fixated on divisive politics, empty slogans, and term-limit debates. There is simply no room for them here,” said Prof Kindiki.

While the Deputy President remained silent on his future amid speculation that ODM might seek his seat in a pre-election deal, UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar offered a strong endorsement.

Mr Omar assured residents that Professor Kindiki is a capable leader who will retain his position as Deputy President in the next term.

“As UDA, we are clear: it is Kindiki for two terms so that he can continue the work beyond 2027. We want a leader who is well-rounded and proven,” said Mr Omar.

Mr Omar suggested that recent by-election victories are a clear testament that the party will beat the opposition and any other challengers seeking to take power in the next general election.

Other regional leaders, including Lunga Lunga MP Chiforomodo Mangale, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, and Sports and Creative Economy Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, joined the call to support Dr Ruto, describing him as the best leader for the country’s future.

“When we are already seeing the goodness of being in government, why would we move away from a leadership that has brought us so many benefits?” asked the Kwale County boss.

CS Mvurya stated that the Coastal region is finally being prioritised in national discussions. He dismissed those attempting to incite division, pointing out that several opposition figures held high-ranking government positions in the past without delivering meaningful results for the region.

“Some in the opposition have previously served as deputy presidents and ministers; yet, did they deliver anything for you? It is rare to find a president who fulfils his pledges. President Ruto promised development, and the results are visible across the region. We reject those peddling tribalism. We are capable of seeing the government’s impact for ourselves,” stated Mr Mvurya.
