'Not even an inch,' clergy cautions Mlolongo land dealers eyeing church property
AIC church vows to fight back after repeated demolitions in Mlolongo.
On the morning of October 20, 2025, unknown men descended on the Africa Inland Church (AIC) Baraka in Mlolongo, Machakos County compound, demolishing a section of a building where the youth attend service as well as the washrooms.
When church members rebuilt it, the structures were flattened again the following day despite police officers from the nearby Mlolongo Police Station having been deployed to guard the church, but were absent on the day of the attack.
The church has been on the eight-acre parcel of land since 2015, and its leadership says it was formally allocated to it by the Mavoko Municipality in 1994.
However, it has been contested since 2022. Clergy whose names cannot be published for safety reasons explained how livestock – 10 goats and three cows – were stolen from the compound.
“They’ve been doing those things quietly,” said one church leader. “But right now they have come out boldly into the public limelight as the people who have been disturbing us.”
Several OB entries at Mlolongo Police Station and seen by Daily Nation confirm several reports on insecurity incidents.
“This eight-acre parcel was allocated to the Africa Inland Church by the Mavoko Municipality in 1994. We have the original ownership documents in safe custody,” stated Reverend Joachim Muia, who started the AIC Baraka Church in 2015.
“If anyone truly owned this land, they would have come forward long ago. In fact, it is some of these individuals who have encroached on part of our land. Those claiming ownership should seek redress in court,” he said.
The church also had plans to build a school on the piece of land.
Last Sunday, the church compound was under heightened security, with eight police officers stationed on site during service.
“We will not lose even an inch of God’s property,” Rev Muia said.
