Ruto’s UDA summons two MCAs over links to Gachagua party
Nyeri Nominated MCA Ann Thumbi and her Nairobi counterpart Joy Muthoni Mwangi.
President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has summoned two nominated Members of County Assembly for associating with the party of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a letter dated June 6, 2025, the party's disciplinary committee chairperson Charles Njenga said that Nyeri Nominated MCA Ann Thumbi and her Nairobi counterpart Joy Muthoni Mwangi took part in functions of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), which is against the UDA constitution.
Mr Njenga said that the two violated Section 14A of the Political Parties Act, which provides that a person is deemed to have resigned from their party if they support the ideology of another.
"The UDA party disciplinary committee is in receipt of information and evidence of your activities relevant to party discipline as provided in law and its constitution, which were widely circulated in both mainstream and social media and otherwise in the public domain," the letter to Ms Muthoni reads.
Mr Njenga said that the party has received compelling evidence showing Ms Muthoni participating in the political activities of DCP on May 15.
"Your message carried on your Facebook page, where you clearly and by implication demonstrated your association and support of the said DCP party and encouraged members to leave the UDA party," Mr Njenga said.
Ms Thumbi has been accused of attending the activities of Gachagua's party on May 15, where she was actively taking part in rallies despite being nominated to the County Assembly by UDA.
Additionally, Ms Thumbi has been accused of endorsing Mr Gachagua's party and encouraging elected leaders to leave UDA.
The two MCAs are expected to appear before the committee on June 20 at UDA headquarters in Nairobi for a hearing.
