  • Family member says the elderly woman had been in and out of hospital and had been diagnosed with diabetes

The mother of the late Migori Senator Ben Okello, Teodora Ayieko, has died.

Her death comes barely four months since her son died at MP Shah hospital in Nairobi. Mr Mark Okundi, who acted as the family's spokesperson after Mr Okello's death in June, told Nation the 90-year-old woman died at Migori Level IV Hospital early on Friday.

DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES

Mr Okundi, who is Mr Okello's nephew, said his grandmother had been in and out of hospital and had been diagnosed with diabetes. Ms Ayieko had sought treatment at various health facilities in Migori County.

“She had been unwell for sometime due to complications related to her old age,” said Mr Okundi.

Before he plunged into politics, Mr Okello worked at Ramogi and KBC as a radio presenter. He died barely a year after his election as Migori senator.
