What you need to know:

  • President Kenyatta is to issue the documents to more than 30,000 residents of Embakasi Ranching Company, Tassia estate and the Korogocho and Mbagathi informal settlements.

Embakasi Ranch owners will receive title deeds after a 45-year wait today.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is to issue the documents to more than 30,000 residents of Embakasi Ranching Company, Tassia estate and the Korogocho and Mbagathi informal settlements.

The event is part of the President’s Nairobi Titling Programme, launched in 2018.

The initiative falls under the National Titling Programme which has seen more than five million title deeds issued in several parts of the country in just seven years.

Last week, Mr Kenyatta gave Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) two weeks to ensure the title deeds reach their owners.

Embakasi ranch was established in 1975 with shareholders drawn mainly from Kiambu and Murang’a counties. Many have since died.

President Kenyatta urged recipients of the title deeds not to be duped into disposing of their land.

He told them to use the documents to improve their livelihoods.

“Do not be cheated to sell your land which you have fought for all these years. Use it to help yourself, children and grandchildren,” the President said.

The development is part of the President’s resolve to bring reforms in the land sector.

Mr Kenyatta has moved to actualise his desire for land reforms by issuing a record number of titles, especially in regions where land is a contentious issue.

“After 50 years of independence, six million title deeds were issued. In only seven years, an additional five million title deeds have been issued under my administration,” he said.
