A court in Nyamira has detained two suspects accused of murdering a 20-year-old woman pending investigations into the matter.
Gideon Makori, alias Giddy, and Vinic Kemunto will be remanded at the Nyamira Police station for 21 days, awaiting the case mention scheduled for later this month.
The two were arrested on Wednesday evening at Huruma Estate in Nairobi following the recovery of remains presumed to be of the young woman who had been missing for weeks.
Gideon is suspected of having murdered Faith Kemunto, a 20-year-old woman from Nyamira who was to join a university next month.
The two who were presented at the Nyamira Law Courts before Chief Magistrate Bernard Ochieng on Friday, September 5, however, failed to take a plea.
This is after the prosecution team led by Ms Vane Mochama asked the court to grant the investigating officer, Pascal Otieno, 21 days to complete investigations into the matter.
“The investigating officer needs time to record statements of key witnesses from the family of the prime suspect and the family of the late Kemunto,” said Ms Mochama.

She added, “This matter is in connection with a court order that was given to exhume a body that is believed to be hers. The body was exhumed yesterday as per the orders and is lying at Nyamira referral mortuary awaiting post mortem and possible DNA tests,”
According to Ms Mochama, the first respondent, Gideon, was the last person to be seen with the deceased.
The suspect who had initially evaded arrest was trailed and arrested while seeking refuge in the house of Vicnic, the second respondent, in Nairobi.
"Having considered this application, I will allow the investigators the said number of days to conclude their investigations. The two will be held at Nyamira Police Station, and the mention date will be on September 29, 2025," said CM Ochieng.
Faith Kemunto went missing from her parents' home on July 30.
After a month-long search, Gideon is said to have directed the deceased relatives to the scene where he had interred her remains.
On Thursday, the body presumed to be Faith's was exhumed by detectives from the homicide unit at Maosi village.
The body is currently preserved at the Nyamira referral mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.
