The prime suspect in the murder of a yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman who was found dead and her body stuffed in a sack in Ngomongo village, Bahati sub-county on 25 December has been arrested.

The suspect, identified as Bernard Ngugi Mbau, was smoked out of his hideout at Tumaini Shopping Centre in Nyandarua County on Friday by a team of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Headquarters and Nakuru County.

According to Nakuru North DCI sub-county officer Josephine Wambui, the 25-year-old suspect is currently being transported to Nakuru for processing.

"He was arrested today at his hideout in Nyandarua where he ran to after committing the heinous crime. He will be processed and later charged to court," she said.

The suspect is said to have murdered the woman, gouged out her eyes, hacked her on the left side and then inflicted multiple wounds on the victim's head and abdomen before stuffing her remains into a sack and disappearing.

Later, his employer is said to have visited the staff quarters where she discovered a stuffed sack soaked in a pool of blood, a hammer and a knife in a bucket - three-quarters full of red coloured water - and reported the matter to the Labour Police Patrol Base.

The body was taken to Nakuru Annex Hospital Mortuary.

Homicide detectives from Nairobi and Nakuru spent most of Thursday at Mr Joseph Mwangi's homestead in Ngomongo village combing the premises.
