A 41-year old man on Sunday night killed his wife and later hanged himself in Shamata, Nyandarua County in yet another incident of domestic violence in the region.
The man identified as Anthony Ng’ang’a reportedly killed his 35-year-old wife Jane Wairimu using a kitchen knife and an axe before hanging himself outside their house at Ex-Ndeiya village in Ndaragwa Constituency.
According to Mr John Macharia, an uncle of the man, the couple’s 14-year-old daughter alerted him after she stumbled on her mother’s lifeless body on Monday morning.
“The girl told me that she had woken up at night and found the lights on and the door open before she closed it and switched off the lights then went back to sleep,” he said.
Mr Macharia told the Nation that he rushed to his nephew’s house and found the woman lying dead in their bedroom.
“I informed my neighbours and we mounted a search since he was missing from the house. We later found his body dangling from a branch of a tree some few metres from their three-roomed timber house,” added Mr Macharia.
Troubled marriage
He said that the couple had been having a troubled marriage.
“We, however, did not think that it could have turned this tragic,” Mr Macharia said.
Confirming the incident, Ndaragwa Sub-County Deputy Police Commander Paul Saitoti noted that the woman had a stab wound on her back.
“She had another deep injury in the neck which we believe was inflicted using an axe. We have since recovered the killer knife and the axe at the scene,” added Mr Saitoti.
“We are urging couples with domestic conflicts to be approaching either religious people or friends to help them solve their issues amicably instead of resorting to violence,” he said.
The bodies were moved to the Nyahururu County Referral Hospital mortuary.
