“This is a very sad incident that has led to the death of 15 people, including a teenager. Five other people have been seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Nyeri,” she said.

Mr Anthony Waweru, who was among the first to arrive at the scene of accident, said the initial reaction was to rescue those who were trapped in the wreckage.

“We started by removing the firewood the lorry was carrying so as to free those who were trapped under the vehicle,” said Mr Waweru, who operates a boda boda in Nyeri town.
