Vote recount reveals disparity

What you need to know:

  • The recount, which was conducted in Gem, Rarieda, and Bondo constituencies, revealed that Mr Rasanga got 80,254 votes compared to IEBC figure of 88,358.
  • Mr Oduol got 58,851 votes compared to the recorded 59,291.

A recount of votes cast in three of Siaya constituencies has revealed that Governor Cornel Rasanga garnered 8,104 less votes than the figure IEBC declared.

The number of votes recorded for his opponent William Oduol were also 440 less.

The recount, which was conducted in Gem, Rarieda, and Bondo constituencies, revealed that Mr Rasanga got 80,254 votes compared to IEBC figure of 88,358.

Mr Oduol got 58,851 votes compared to the recorded 59,291.

Votes cast in some selected polling stations in the county were also recounted and the total for Mr Rasanga was 133,798 while that of Mr Oduol was 133,567, a difference of 231 votes.

On July 3, Justice Aggrey Muchelule ordered the recount after Mr William Oduol moved to court in a bid to overturn the declaration of his rival Mr Rasanga as governor.

Lawyers will on Wednesday afternoon submit their reactions to the figures.
