'They're married!' Zuchu's mum confirms secret Diamond Platnumz nikah
Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu
Legendary Tanzanian taarab musician Khadijah Kopa has chided online detractors who mocked her daughter Zuchu’s relationship with Diamond Platnumz.
Many critics were certain that the two would never marry, given Diamond’s history with women he has dated previously.
“Those who mocked my daughter, saying she would never get married, where are they now? For those who are still in doubt, the nikah took place many days ago and my daughter has been married for a while now,” Khadija revealed on the side at her Swahili Soul Night show in Nairobi.
She then added: “Under Islamic teachings, once nikah has taken place, that is enough to solemnise the marriage. Once you meet the sheikh, give your hand and accept, that’s all. Whether or not a ceremony follows doesn’t matter. Whether or not there is a white wedding is up to them. All I ever wished for was to see my daughter get married.”
As for why she didn’t attend the nikah that was reported to have taken place in secret, she said, “I had other engagements to attend to, but a parent doesn’t have to be present at the nikah as long as they give their blessing. The presence of the sheikh is all that is needed.”
In Islamic law, marriage is formalized through a marriage contract, known as a ‘nikah’, whereby the bride accepts the groom’s dowry.
The Tanzanian bongo flava heartthrob began an affair with Zuchu a few months after she signed to his record label, Wasafi. Diamond had just ended his relationship with his Kenyan ex-girlfriend Tanasha Donna, whom he had promised to marry.
When Zuchu came onto the scene, some argued that she wasn’t as refined as Tanasha or Zari, and as such, it didn’t seem as though Diamond would marry her.
However, last month, after singer Juma Jux’s wedding to Nigerian Priscilla Ojo became a trending topic in Tanzania, Diamond revealed that he and Zuchu had secretly married, which many found surprising and doubted.
