Zuchu: Diamond is my hero

Diamond will always be my hero no matter what happens I credit him for my successes.

Bongo flava singer Zuhura Othman Soud better known by her stage name as Zuchu, recently toured the country alongside her boss and boyfriend Diamond Platnumz for a performance at Furaha festival.

The event turned scandalous with Platnumz not taking to the stage. Nonetheless Zuchu had a moment. In 2020 she was officially unveiled as Wasafi Record Label new signee. In less than a week she received her first YouTube plaque for obtaining 100,000 subscribers. In 2022 Zuchu became the most subscribed female artistes in Sub-Saharan Africa.

I haven’t yet achieved what I would consider to be my biggest accomplishment. The YouTube achievement was big at the time but right now I have bigger dreams.
However, I won’t lie, getting 100,000 YouTube subscribers within a week did surprise me.

I was a new artiste, a female just starting out, people didn’t know much about me. So I went from zero to 100,000 in a blink of an eye and in less than a year I got my YouTube Gold Plaque which was a million subscribers.

Diamond will always be my hero no matter what happens I credit him for my successes. He came from the streets of Tândale to the biggest artiste in East Africa. This shows you the kind of work he has put in to get to the level he is at.

He’s also my hero for supporting me. He would have chosen to invest his money in his own music projects or other ventures but he chose to invest in me. Look at all the artistes who have passed through his hands, they are all now A-List artistes, and for that, I will always give him his flowers.

When he was releasing me as his new signee, he had to put his projects on hold for a year and instead diverted the investments towards me to ensure I made it. He would have chosen to probably use that money to build his daughter Tiffah an apartment. Taking on a female artiste was a risk.

I always tell him I don’t think I can do that for anybody. I don’t see myself owning a label because it’s a lot of sacrifice. I can’t keep up. Diamond has created his legacy. You cannot talk of the Tanzanian music industry without mentioning his name even when he is long gone. If you want to talk about Harmonize, you will have to mention Diamond’s name, same to Rayvanny, myself and the list goes on.

One thing I am proud of is playing the mother role to his children (with Zari). At first, I was very nervous because they were not mine but right now they are my little buddies.
