Tanzanian bongo flava star Ommy Dimpoz has revealed that he has found a new source of wealth since stepping back from an active music career, which was initially his main source of income.
For a long time, music was his driving force.
In 2018, however, his world was turned upside down when he allegedly ingested poison that had been sprinkled in his food at the wedding of fellow star Ali Kiba. This led to him losing his voice.

What followed was a medical nightmare that lasted more than a year before he could properly regain his voice. Two major life-threatening surgeries left him in a nine-day coma, with months spent breathing, eating and surviving through tubes.
He made his comeback in 2019, having regained his vocal cords, and tested the waters again. However, ever since then, Ommy’s once flourishing and vibrant music career has been hit and miss.
The sharp suits. The designer drip is still on. Currently, one of his most prized possessions is the Mercedes G Wagon worth Sh28 million.
Naturally, his lifestyle continues to raise eyebrows given that he continues to flaunt his wealth. His social media followers have constantly questioned how he can still afford this lifestyle and live so large when music is no longer his main focus.
Ommy finds this narrative funny, as he reveals that he no longer depends on music to make money.
“I got into business. I run a couple of businesses,” he explains. He says that one of his biggest moves was stepping into the world of advertising and marketing.

“I met an investor (tycoon Ghalib Said Mohammed) who introduced me to the advertising space after appointing me as a brand ambassador for one of his company’s products. That’s when I realised I could actually build something stable, an agency, instead of just relying on music alone,” he adds.
In addition to advertising, Ommy has also established a strong presence in the real estate sector, which he describes as both profitable and reliable.
“It’s a lucrative business because demand is high. I started with just two apartments, and I’ve expanded since then.”
Some of his properties operate as Airbnbs, while others are leased out to long-term tenants. 'I’m a landlord now, and it's another revenue stream that I think artists should seriously consider. I got the idea while I was in Dubai. I studied the Airbnb model there, then brought the concept home. I replicated those ideas, and honestly, the business has been very rewarding.”
