Remembering  singer  Kasongo wa Kanema

Fans and fellow musicians will next weekend mark the fifth anniversary of the death of former Super Mazembe band leader and singer Kasongo wa Kanema.

In Nairobi, members of the Super Mazembe Academia Band,  an offshoot of the original Super Mazembe, are planning to stage a tribute to Kasongo next Saturday at the K’Osewe Ronalo Foods (next to Nation Centre, Kimathi Street) in Nairobi.

Mazembe Academia band leader Loboko Pasi says they will perform some of the hit songs Kasongo took part in recording.

Kasongo joined the Super Mazembe band in 1978 alongside Pasi and Lovy Longomba.

This is when he was involved in recording songs such as  Loboko, Longwa, South View and  Kayembe.

The famous  Kasongo song that has lately been trending in politics, with President William Ruto earning the nickname, had been released long before wa Kanema joined the band.

Also to be remembered next week will be Aziz Abdi  Kilambo of the Benga Africa band.
